Your Doctor Is Your Team Mate

Are you fine? Or are you hearing that your kidneys are under stress? Perhaps you need additional support with medicine? Whatever it may or may not be, remember your doctor is there to answer all your questions.

From the answers you receive from your test results, you now have information about your kidney's health and function levels. Being in the know helps in your health. Make sure you understand your results and what that means to your health.

There is a lot to take in from your test results.  Make sure you understand the doctor's answers and what that means to you and your kidneys.

Questions You Need to Ask Your Doctor

With your results, you should know and understand their importance in your kidneys and overall health.

What is my GFR ?

  • 60 or higher is in the normal range
  • Below 60 may mean kidney disease
  • 15 or lower may mean kidney failure

What is my blood pressure ?

120/80 mmHg

120/80 mmHg with 5-10 mmHg increase in diastolic BP

What is my urine albumin result ?

Normal albumin levels in children or adults varies from 3.5 g/dl to 5.4g/dl.

What is my creatinine clearance ?

The creatinine clearance test involves urine collection over a 24 hour period and can also provide an estimate of your kidney function.

  • Overall state of kidneys health function?
  • My blood glucose (for diabetes) ?



Now What?

As you learn the overall status of your health and kidney function you may have medications and possible treatments that will be part of your life.  Below are a list of additional questions that you should ask.

First find out:

  • What is wrong with my health?
  • What is my diagnosis?
  • What changes if any to my diet?

If medications are required:

  • What medications are you prescribing and what are they for?
  • Do the medications have any side effects?

If treatments are required:

  • Are there other methods of treatment?
  • What are the risks that go along with treatment?
  • What should I expect during treatment?
  • Are there side effects to the treatment?
  • Do I have any physical restrictions?

It's best to write down your questions and bring them with you when speaking with your doctor.
