The kidney is the third most common organ after the spleen and liver to sustain damage as a result of blunt force trauma.  These injuries can be seen in car accidents - children often sustain kidney injury, falls, receiving a hard hit in the flank area of the body (between rib and hip) or a sudden stop after travelling at a high speed. 


Most common symptom of kidney injury is blood in the urine, some seen by the naked eye and sometimes only under a microscope.
